About this project

Hi! I'm a Year 8 student in Australia and I'm a bit obsessed with space. This website is my astronomy project. It started as my Science Quest project about magnetars (which I was lucky enough to win a prize for), and it grew from there because I had way more to say than would fit on a poster.

Why I made it

Three reasons, really. First, I didn't want all my research to just sit in a folder and be forgotten. Second, building a website was a brilliant excuse to teach myself HTML, CSS and JavaScript. And third - the main one - I wanted to share this stuff. When I learned that the iron in my blood was made inside a dying star, it changed how I see the world, and I want other students to feel that too.

How I built it

I made this by hand with plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript - no big frameworks, because I wanted to actually understand what I was writing. All the diagrams are drawn in code (SVG) so I didn't have to use anyone else's images. I learned from free tutorials, my school, library books, and a lot of trial and error. There are definitely things I'd do better now than when I started, and that's kind of the point - you can watch it improve on the update history page.

How I keep it accurate

I'm not a scientist, I'm a student, so I'm careful. I check facts against NASA and ESA and try to confirm anything surprising with a second source before I put it on the site. If I'm not sure about something, I say so. If you ever spot a mistake, please tell a grown-up to let me know - I'd much rather fix it than leave it wrong.

My goal: if even one other student reads this site and decides astronomy is the coolest thing ever, then the whole project was worth it. Thanks for visiting. Keep looking up. ⭐
